There is no better recipe than one that is passed down from generation to generation. Especially when it comes to casseroles! I believe casseroles should reflect that old time home cooking. My favorite was passed down from woman to woman in my family and is simply called “Potato Casserole.”
For this delicious dish you’ll need:
4 to 6 potatoes
1 lb ground beef
2 to 3 cups shredded cheddar (you can use any type of cheese; I prefer cheddar)
1/2 cup flour
You can preheat your oven to 350 degrees anytime, but I always preheat it after I have prepared the dish for the oven.
Start by cleaning, peeling, and slicing the potatoes.
Next, or while slicing, brown the ground beef in a frying pan.
You can either buy a package of shredded cheddar or shred your own.
Start by putting a layer of potatoes inside the bottom of your casserole dish. Next put a layer of ground beef followed by a sprinkling of flour. Next put a layer of cheese. If your dish is deeper, continue layering until you’re about 1/2 inch from the top.
Next you pour in the milk. Fill up the dish 3/4 of the way with milk.
When your oven is preheated, put the dish on the middle rack in the middle of your oven.
Your casserole will be done in 30 to 45 minutes. After 30 minutes, periodically check the dish by stabbing one of the thicker slices of potatoes. If it is soft, your casserole is done!
Serve and enjoy! This can be a great addition to any cookbook and is a family favorite in my house.
